Above, the Upper Ranch caters to 4x4s and side-by-sides, boasting challenging black diamond climbs and one-way trails that test both driver and machine. The peak offers panoramic views, a reward well earned after tackling the steep ascents. After a day on the trails, the nearby town of Hollister offers a place to resupply or grab a meal before heading back into the wild.

Four campsites spread across stable, mostly level ground where campers set up tents, park rigs, or stage their off-road vehicles. Each site includes a fire pit, perfect for gathering after sunset, and the ground beneath is firm enough to support heavy rigs without sinking. Showers and restrooms are clean and well-maintained, surprising amenities in a dry camping environment that costs just $10 per night. Electricity hookups are available, and plenty of parking makes it easy for large groups to gather, as one group of sixty adults discovered during their visit. A stage area adds a communal spot for events or music, amplifying the sense of camaraderie among visitors. Cell service can be spotty, but many find the intermittent signal a welcome break from screens and calls.
