Winding through the Allegany National Forest, this compact campground offers a gateway to Pennsylvania’s dwindling old-growth woodlands. Trails branch off from the parking area, leading visitors past towering trees that have stood for over 400 years, their gnarled limbs stretching skyward. Beyond the loop, the Kinzua Reservoir and Allegany River sit about 21 miles northeast, inviting day trips for paddling or fishing. Wildlife is plentiful here: whitetail deer quietly browse under the canopy, while raccoons and foxes prowl after dark. Birdwatchers find plenty to admire, especially in the morning chorus that fills the forest.

The campground itself wraps around a single forested loop with 26 sites, each shaded by an 80 to 90 percent tree cover that offers cool respite from summer heat but challenges solar setups and satellite reception. Site 16, for example, comfortably fits a 35-foot rig and toad, complete with a sturdy picnic table and a well-used fire ring. Pit toilets dot the loop, and water faucets provide refreshment, though amenities remain rustic. A pavilion stands near the south side, perfect for group gatherings. The camp host, easily spotted near the entrance in her buggy, keeps a welcoming presence. Generators hum only during designated hours, preserving the campground’s quietude. Parking space is somewhat limited, so arriving early can ease the hunt for a spot.

As twilight descends, the forest sounds crescendo—branches creak, leaves rustle, and the occasional rustle hints at nocturnal visitors. Campers appreciate the peacefulness here, away from crowds and city noise, where the rhythm of the forest sets the pace.
